We enjoyed this great article on the merits of F2P by Lee Perry over at Gamasutra. The freemium world comes in for a fair amount of criticism, but this puts a lot of that in context. Is it really so wrong to identify what players don't like a game and act on it? Is it a crime to care about issues like retention and UI design. Surely not!

Another great presentation from Emily Greer at Kongregate, Put simply, it's a reminder that great games (both for players and developers) are often slow-burners rather than here today, gone tomorrow hits. And using that knowledge,there's some smart advice on how exactly to create titles that generate long-term player commitment.

We meet a lot of people looking for “mobile analytics”. I guess that’s just an occupational hazard. But it does prompt a little thinking around why - as an industry - we’ve swallowed the analytics bug wholesale.

It’s easy to point out what’s wrong with analytics. It doesn’t do anything. It has precisely zero impact on the things most app developers care about. Retention, conversion, revenue: little things like that.
